New travel rules for New Zealand

August 01, 2019

By Felix Borenstein

The New Zealand Government has introduced new travel requirements for most visitors coming into the country from the USA, UK, Europe and Asia.

The first is the IVL (International Visitor Tourism and Conservation Levy) and the second is called the NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). Travellers need to request these via the official mobile app or website. The approval process can take up to 72 hours, so we recommend you get yours in plenty of time prior to your trip. (Australian citizens do not need an NZeTA)

The IVL and NZeTA are required for travel from 1 October 2019; both are valid for multiple visits and are valid for up to two years.
For more information, visit www.immigration.govt.nz/nzeta to find out if you need them and how to apply.
