Merry Christmas and a big welcome to 2021

When it comes to wrapping up 2020, what can I say that hasn’t already been said? We all know it’s been one hell of a year. For some, it’s been tragic. You don’t need me adding to all the noise.

So let’s not go there.

Let’s look forward to the time—and it’s not that far off—when vaccines against COVID-19 have been rolled out and New Zealand re-opens its borders. If distribution goes to plan, we’re talking October 2021. Just 10 short months.

With a little bit of luck, a trans Tasman travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand will be in place around the end of February 2021.

Then you’ll be able to come to Owen River Lodge. My team and I will do our utmost to give you the fishing holiday of your dreams. You’ll catch wild, wary brown trout. We’ll send you home with great memories. You’ll return. We’ll be here to welcome you. Rinse and repeat.

Fishing just like it used to be… but better

Why? Because with our borders currently closed and only locals out fly-fishing, our waterways are basically untouched—and the fish are very happy. I can put my hand on my heart and say that so far this season, I’ve enjoyed some of the most amazing fishing of my life. (Of course, if you’re based in New Zealand that’s great news for you too. Make the most of it with a luxury fishing holiday at Owen River Lodge!)

By the time next season rolls around, our big, beautiful browns will have had an 18-month holiday. Imagine.

January and February 2022 are almost booked out at Owen River Lodge, so if you want to partake in what’s going to be an epic fish-fest, contact me now.

Our Covid 19 booking guarantee and safeguard

Here’s a quick refresher on our COVID-19 bookings policy:

• If you’re unable to make a trip due to official travel restrictions implemented because of the virus, all payments will be credited to a future stay at Owen River Lodge. The credit is valid for 24 months.

Much to be thankful for

2020 didn’t entirely suck. If there’s been one silver lining, it’s in the appreciation of things that truly matter: friends, family, meaningful experiences. There’s still a lot to be grateful for. And on that note, we wish you a peaceful, happy Christmas, and a New Year that brings good health and success in all your endeavours.

Hoping to see you soon
Felix, Kylie, Ryan and the team at Owen River Lodge
