Learn to Fly Fish School is back in March 2022 !

We promised the 10 newbie anglers who attended our inaugural Learn to Fly Fish School in November that it would be “cool as hell”—and it seems they agreed.

Dan certainly liked it. Here’s a snippet from his Trip Advisor review:

There were couples. There were siblings. There were mates. They all came to Owen River Lodge to learn how to fly fish Despite their inexperience. Despite the less-than-perfect weather, they all learned heaps, they all had fun and some wild New Zealand brown trout were caught too !

So we called that an amazing result… and decided we’d had so much fun that we wanted to do it all again. We’ve fine-tuned the programme because we’re crazy perfectionists (that’s why we’re the most-awarded fishing lodge in New Zealand). But we’re not changing the cost. Nope. How you’ll learn to fly fish like a pro

Step 1: Rock up to Owen River Lodge and be welcomed like royalty. Bring a friend or we’ll pair you up with a new friend!
Step 2: Learn to cast, or improve your casting technique with our expert guides and FFI-certified casting instructor.
Step 3: Spend the next two days putting your new-found skills to the test in our streams.
Step 4: Make the most of all the Lodge facilities on offer. Spend the evenings in the company of your fellow guests while our guides entertain and inform you about:

• the physics of casting
• fly selection
• knot tying
• stream entomology
• river craft

Step 5: Go home feeling like a fly fishing superstar.

Owen River Lodge Learn to Fly Fish School schedule

18 March 2022–21 March 2022: 3 nights and 2 days leaning to fly fish

Arrive mid to late afternoon Friday 18 March 2022
Fly fishing school will start with a casting lesson, delivered by Kylie, New Zealand’s only female certified casting Instructor on the Friday afternoon and then continue after dinner. The majority of Saturday and Sunday will be spent on the water. Each evening, our wonderful fishing guides will share their knowledge and experience with you in a fun environment.
Depart : The morning of Monday 21 March, in time to get back to work

Cost : $2,345 per person (incl. GST), twin share

This includes your accommodation in one of our luxury guest cottage suites; all meals, i.e. pre-dinner canapés, a three-course dinner, cooked English breakfast, picnic lunch, Neudorf and Craggy Range house wines with meals, beer; Wi-Fi; the use of all lodge facilities including our fly fishing equipment; and expert tuition and guiding with one of our fly-fishing guides.
