Owen River Lodge wins Environmental Sustainability award from Hospitality New Zealand

It’s awards season again! Last week we bagged one that’s close to our hearts: Best Environmental/Sustainable Business at Hospitality New Zealand’s 2022 Awards for Excellence.

We were also finalists in the Best Destination Venue category—but we figured we’d hold that one over for next year…..

In the last five years Owen River Lodge has pulled out all the stops to achieve certifications and win awards like these. That’s because we don’t expect anybody to believe the claims we make without showing proof. There’s waaaaay too much greenwashing in our world right now. (You’d think they’d be much better off putting all that effort into simply doing the right thing, wouldn’t you?)

Anyway ... Owen River Lodge has never had to worry about having sustainability epiphanies because we’ve operated sustainably from the start. We’ve had to—but even if we didn’t, we’d still do it anyway. Because, you know ... decency.

It’s really nice when your industry tells you it loves you and gives you something shiny to take home. We like being trailblazers. But we like it even more when we can share our beautiful spot in this gorgeous country with you—our guests and friends. That’s the best win of all.
