Our trout need you in April 2023! - to catch them, that is.

To show them who’s boss.

To teach them a lesson because they probably evaded other anglers all season and grew fat and complacent.

In April 2023 our trout will need you to land them, kiss them, and then let them go so they can swim off to make big, wily offspring. It’s a beautiful, sustainable thing.

Why April 2023?

Because we held our inaugural women-only, luxury fishing retreat in April 2021 and it was such a massive success, we’ve decided to do it again every year. Of course, you’re very welcome to come and stay with us any time in the fishing season if you wish, but in April 2023 we’re making it extra-special for our female guests.

What’s in it for you

Six nights and five days of an angling experience like no other in New Zealand, brought to you by a multi award-winning luxury lodge that will spoil you so rotten, the word “rotten” won’t even begin to cover it.

You’ll dine on exquisite cuisine and drink top-of-the-range Kiwi wines. You’ll have an indulgent massage.

You’ll learn how to cast or refine your technique with Kylie, New Zealand’s only female FFI-certified casting instructor.

Your days will be spent outside in the peace and quiet of a picturesque local river, accompanied by one of our friendly, Kiwi fishing guides.

You’ll also have time to roam through our extensive ornamental, vegetable and flower gardens. Indie the black lab will be more than happy to come with you.

At night, you’ll be treated to fly-tying demos and entomology lessons from our guides, who are hugely entertaining blokes. Maybe you’ll want to soak under the stars in the outdoor jacuzzi before returning to your luxurious accommodation and sleeping the sleep of deep contentment.

Maybe you’ll catch one or more of our wild brown trout. And maybe you’ll form lasting friendships with your angling sisters on the retreat and decide to do it all again in 2023!

This retreat caters for all experience levels, ranging from Absolute Beginner to Female Fly Fishing Guru Wizard-Ninja. You’ll only have to bring a suitcase and your own wonderful self—we have the world’s largest collection of Simms and Sage top-of-the range loan angling gear, with loads of waders and boots in women’s sizes.

We’ll be at the airport to welcome you on your arrival, and we’ll take you back there at the end of your stay.

Covid 19 : If you’re unable to make a trip due to official government travel restrictions implemented because of the Covid-19 coronavirus, all payments will be credited to a future stay at Owen River Lodge. This credit will be valid for 24 months.
