| Welcome to the web site of Owen River Lodge – New Zealand's finest 5 star rated fly fishing lodge.
My name is Felix Borenstein; I’m the owner and general manager of the Owen
River Lodge. I first started fly fishing in Australia, (my home country) in 1995. Overnight my life
changed! – I became absolutely addicted. Before I knew it, I’d visited the South Island of New Zealand some 19 times. Never mind visiting, I wanted to develop a contemporary styled luxury fly fishing lodge there. | |||
| After fishing around a lot of New Zealand, it became obvious to me that the Murchison / Nelson Lakes region of the South Island has the best brown trout fishery in the world. | |||

| The top of the South Island of New Zealand has the best sighted trout fishery in the world and Owen River Lodge
is located right in the middle of the region. This very special location allows our guests an enormous choice and variety of rivers,
streams and lakes to fish, with over 25 rivers & streams within a 90 minute drive. If this wasn’t enough, our location right on the boundary of Kahurangi National Park allows our guests to quickly and easily fly into another dozen or so stunning wilderness streams. It was my desire to create a luxurious fishing lodge that delivers a relaxed, understated and highly professional level of service in stylish surrounds, serving wonderful food to travelling anglers and non anglers alike Owen River Lodge has developed one of New Zealand’s most experienced guiding teams. All our friendly fishing guides are local kiwis, all of whom are members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association. With their assistance a day on the river is full of action, excitement and generally much laughter! | |||

| Our elegantly designed guest accommodation cottage suites are full of sunlight, and offer
stunning views of the river, the Owen Ranges and Kahurangi National Park. In October 2005 the lodge was awarded a Qualmark rating of 5 stars -"Exceptional - among the best available in New Zealand". In 2008 we were given Qualmark's highest level of environmental sustainability when we were awarded Enviro Gold status. Qualmark is New Zealand tourism's official quality rating system for accommodation providers and the broader tourism industry. As a specialist fly fishing lodge, we have tried to think of everything our
guests would need from a fishing lodge – perhaps this is one of one the reasons so many of our guests return to Owen River Lodge –
