With around 2,500 hours of sunshine each year, Nelson regularly tops the “sunniest city in New Zealand” lists.

It has a mild, Mediterranean-type climate, with coastal breezes tempering the summer heat.

The studio of the artisan jeweler who designed and created the One Ring for Sir Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films is open to the public, selling replicas of “The Precious” and other jewellery featured in the films.
